Celebrating 150 Years
The 1860 Medallion was conceptualized by Ray Bisnath of Romnik as a means of immortalizing the arrival of the indentured Indian labourers in South Africa on 16 November 1860.
Ray visualised the Medallion as a tangible symbol that could be passed down to future generations to remind them of the perseverance, courage and determination of the human spirit.
16 November 2010 marks the 150th anniversary of the arrival of Indians in South Africa and to celebrate and commemorate this momentous occasion The 1860 Medallion was born. |
